Pigments & Brighteners

PVC, naturally, is a white coloured plastic, but to satisfy the regulatory needs and distinguish the product from the market, various pigments and brighteners can be added to the formulation to adjust the natural colour of PVC. These pigments & brighteners usually include Titanium Dioxide, Carbon Black, Optical Brighteners and colour pigments.

Titanium Dioxide

Titanium dioxide is considered to be the best white pigment in the world. It is widely used in coatings, plastics, paper making, printing inks, chemical fiber, rubber, cosmetics, and other industries. Among them, plastic is the second largest user of titanium dioxide.  It also acts as a protective agent in PVC by absorbing most of the incident UV and visible radiation, thereby protecting the PVC molecules. It usually comes in two forms: anatase and rutile.

Grade Type Manufacturer
NR950 Rutile Nanjing
NA100 Anatase Nanjing
R-902+ Rutile DuPont
R-104 Rutile DuPont

Carbon Black

Carbon Black is a fine black powder, essentially composed of elemental carbon, which is used in making many of the products we use every day stronger, deeper in colour and longer lasting.

It is mainly used to strengthen rubber in tires, but can also act as a pigment, UV stabilizer, and conductive or insulating agent in a variety of rubber, plastic, ink and coating applications.

Optical Brighteners

Optical brighteners are synthetic chemicals which are added to the various applications to make the end product appear whiter, brighter and cleaner. Optical brighteners convert ultraviolet (UV) light waves to strengthen blue light and minimize the amount of yellow light to make the things appear whiter.

Optical brighteners are used in the manufacturing of papers, textiles, plastics, paints, printing inks and cosmetics. They are also used to detect wastewater leakage, help with medical diagnostic procedures and to kill agricultural pests.

Colour Pigments

Pigments are a group of compounds that are intensely coloured and are used to colour other materials. It works by changing the colour of reflected or transmitted light as the result of wavelength-selective absorption. In other words, it’s a substance that appears a certain colour because it selectively absorbs certain wavelength of light. The primary purpose to use pigments is to provide colour to materials, whether they are paints, inks, fabrics, cosmetics, or plastics.

At, Mahavir Group, in addition to the organic & inorganic pigments, we also deal with metallic and industrial pigments.
