Lead Compounds were among the first to be used as stabilizers to prevent the degradation of PVC. Basic Lead compounds are excellent HCl stabilizers which react to form Lead Chlorides and hydrogen gas. These lead chlorides formed provide the PVC with excellent electrical properties, and is very stable, insoluble in water and prevent the decomposition of PVC.
